One in Four

When: October 19, 2011

I wore this outfit on Wednesday in support of Domestic Violence Awareness month. The color purple is attributed to the campaigns purple ribbon symbol, which represents courage, survival, honor and dedication to ending domestic violence. This month we should all grieve for those who are no longer with us as a result of domestic violence, commemorate those who’ve survived, and thank those who work hard every day to stop violence.

Did you know that an average of one in four women will experience domestic violence in their lifetime?  In a room with three other women, I would be that one. As a child I was exposed to domestic violence but stand before you as a proud survivor. Experiencing something so tragic and heartbreaking at a young age, or any age for that matter, is nothing to be ashamed about. So tonight, and every night I pray for those that have not stood up against the violence and for those that made it stop.

Wearing Top: The Limited, Capri’s, Wedges and Belt: Old Navy, Necklace: Thrifted
