Thrifted vs. Vintage

When: January 3, 2012

If you follow me on Twitter then you saw the question I sent out to the Twitterverse a couple weeks ago: what is the difference between a thrifted item and a vintage one? I got a lot of responses, all basically saying the same thing. So here’s my synopsis- They can be one and the same. Thrifting is taking a recycled item that was formerly owned and finding new use for it.  A vintage garment is essentially the same thing, a second hand piece of a certain era. Both can be luxury or non-named brands but the quality makes the difference.

What would I consider this skirt? BOTH. This little number was purchased almost two months ago, but I haven’t had the gull to sport it around the office. When I woke up yesterday I was determined to put together a work appropriate ensemble, and what I got was my fave look of2012 (too early?). Chambray, bauble necklace, and leather? I’ve definitely started the year off on the right foot!

What do you think the difference between a thrifted piece and a vintage one?
