Heart of Haiti Campaign

2010 was a destructive year for natural disasters. Wildfires, landslides, floods, blizzards and earthquakes to name a few, but none was more shocking than the very first natural disaster experienced by the people of Haiti. In January 2010, Haitians suffered through a 7.0 magnitude earthquake that collapsed many of their buildings and killed more than 250,000 people. Two years later, the tiny country is still struggling to rebuild what was left of their home with the help of funds given by world governments.

But how can we help? Macy’s, along with social entrepreneur Willa Shalit and the Clinton Bush Haiti Fund, have launched the Heart of Haiti campaign. This campaign helps support Haitian artisans by providing jobs to feed their families and pay for their children’s education. By simply purchasing one of their more than 40 handcrafted home decor items, financial benefits are given to an estimated 1,500 people of Haiti. The collection features items that were made by recycled and sustainable materials. Eco friendly is always a plus!

Now head over to your local Macy’s and help support a great cause by shopping! Easy as that!

Choose Skin Health

Summer is in full swing and now is the perfect time to start protecting your skin! While days are being spent out enjoying the sun, it is the worst time to neglect your skin, as it is continually exposed to harsh UVB and UVA rays.

I personally take precautionary measure when I know I’ll be spending the day in the sun. However skin protection isn’t limited to the summer months. Living in Arizona, I am constantly aware of the sun exposure that I am subjected all the time. Here are my tips for protection against the sun:

  • applying chap stick/lip balm that is SPF 15 or higher to fight ultraviolet rays
  • light-colored clothing when spending time outdoors so you won’t attract the sun
  • wearing a hat to help protect your scalp from getting sunburned
  • donning on sunglasses to protect both your eyes and the skin underneath that often gets ignored when applying sunscreen
  • year around golden rule - applying moisturizer daily with SPF to both your face and your ears.

There are scary consequences that comes with being diagnosed with skin cancer.  As one of the most preventable of the cancers, skin cancers is a serious issue that we tend to ignore. Well, its stops now! Neutrogena has teamed up with the American Society of Dermatological Surgery (ASDS) to help spread awareness and educate the public on how to fight against sun damage. They’ve teamed up to inform us on healthy sun-safe preventative measures that can be taken to help prevent skin cancer. They are inviting all of us to join the Neutrogena Choose Skin Health campaign to assist in spreading the word and stopping the epidemic of skin cancer at its tracks.

How can you start? Through their collaboration with ASDS, Neutrogena is offering free screenings and self exam kits to us all! Simply click here to find a location near you. Neutrogena is also offering up 15% off your next purchase if you sign up to receive special email offers. An affordable way to keep your skin safe? You know that’s how I do!
