With my birthday a mere week away (what?) I thought I would share some of the things that I’m currently lusting over. You might notice that I have a thing for accessories right now. It might have something to do with the fact that I refuse to try on clothing, but that’s neither here nor there. If only I weren’t on a shopping ban, I would buy myself each and every item above. If only…

What’s in a Name

I often get asked what Fabulously Average means. When I first started blogging [back in May of 2011] my husband wondered the same thing. He asked,“Are you calling yourself average? Or are you calling yourself fabulous?” I looked at him and said both. My blog name is a shout out to all the ladies out there that have average lives but live them fabulously. We all have that fabulously average friend, you know the one I’m talking about. It’s the girl in the Starbucks line that exudes confidence and style, although her entire outfit was purchased at the Target, or the woman in your office that sports a lace skirt with a flannel shirt and pulls it off effortlessly. She might not have the funds to buy the good stuff but she finds a way to work with what she’s got.

Note, I’m not trying to discredit the girls that can afford the elite brand name clothing, more power to them! If you’ve got it, spend it! I know I would. I love brand names as much as the next gal but I don’t live that lifestyle nor do I wish to pretend I do. Trust me, the fella wouldn’t allow it. That’s the intent of this blog, I want to showcase the fabulously average life each and everyone one of us live by making smart, affordable choices.  You don’t need to break the bank to look good.

And that, ladies and gentleman, is Fabulously Average!

If you haven’t yet heard, ModCloth, the vintage-inspired online shop, is coming out with their first premiere collection! How exciting is that! The Make The Cut Collection was actually brought together by ModCloth founder, Susan Gregg Koger, who posted a competition to aspiring designers back in December on ModCloth’s blog. Contestants of all ages submitted 5 sketches inspired by Kroger’s mood board and from there the selection process was underway. The winners sketches were then made into reality and added to the Spring 2012 collection! Talk about catapulting your career!

The old Hollywood inspired collection is elegant and beautiful- complete with  summery sundress, timeless silhouettes, capped sleeves, vintage floral patterns and full skirts perfect for strolls around the park. The collection will be available for purchase later this month, but you can head on over to the ModCloth site now and sign up to be the first to receive email notification of its availability.

Why am I so enthused about collections debut? Well because a couple weeks back, ModCloth reached out to bloggers around the nation to announce the Make The Cut Polyvore Blogger Contest. Bloggers chose their favorite Make the Cut piece and styled an outfit around said piece with other ModCloth items. Essentially, two bloggers were chosen as winners and yours truly was named one of the winners! Yay for me! My prize? I was able to choose an item from the Make the Cut Collection! Yay for me again! I can’t wait for the collection to be released so that I could receive my chosen dress, the Beauty in the Air Dress in Delphinium. A wonderful addition to my summer sundress collection, for sure. See how I styled it below.

(Get the Look: Dress, Bag, Sandal, Hat, Necklace, Sunnies)

Be sure to head on over to the ModCloth site and sign up for updates on the collection! You won’t want to miss out on this!

Welcome!
